Sugar Skull Baby

Sold. Dolls have always freaked me out a bit but I realized I felt better about them when I make them over with my own spooky touch. This a porcelain baby doll with a cloth body that I altered using a Day of the Dead Sugar Skull theme. The head, hands, and feet were treated with a texturizer and then painted, sanded, and inked for a rough primitive surface. Details on the face are traditional sugar skull style, done in acrylics and inks. This surface was then sprayed matte to protect it. The baby is dressed in a vintage lace gown and bonnet that I stained with tea and chestnut. Details include a matching basinet mattress edged in lace and a tattered lace coverlet in gray wash. The baby also wears a large bejeweled gothic cross and has a pull cord to a working music box. It is all nestled in a black woven wicker basket, which is 12” long and 8” tall.
